Terms of Service

1. Introduction & Acceptance

Welcome to RPLudus, a community platform for tabletop roleplayers based in the European Union. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the RPLudus website, services, and features (collectively, the “Platform”).

By creating an account or using RPLudus in any way, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.

You must be at least 16 years of age to use RPLudus, in accordance with Article 8 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Certain features that may be introduced in the future (such as age-restricted content areas) will require users to be at least 18 years of age and may involve additional age verification.

2. Account Terms

  • One account per person— each individual may only maintain one RPLudus account. Creating multiple accounts to evade bans or manipulate platform features is prohibited.
  • Accurate information— you must provide truthful and up-to-date information when registering. You may use a pseudonym as your display name, but your email address must be valid.
  • Account security— you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • No account sharing— your account is personal and may not be shared with, transferred to, or used by any other person.
  • Suspension and termination— we reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate accounts that violate these Terms, at our sole discretion.

3. User Content & Conduct

You retain ownership of any content you create and post on RPLudus, including text, images, character profiles, and community posts (“User Content”).

By posting User Content, you grant RPLudus a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, reproduce, distribute, and modify your content solely as necessary to operate and improve the Platform. This licence ends when you delete your content or account, except where your content has been shared by others or is reasonably necessary to preserve the integrity of existing conversations.

Prohibited Content

The following content and behaviour are strictly prohibited on RPLudus:

  • Illegal content— any material that violates applicable law, including applicable EU law
  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — zero tolerance. Any such content will be immediately removed and reported to the relevant authorities
  • Non-consensual intimate images— sharing intimate or sexual images of any person without their explicit consent
  • Harassment, bullying, and threats — targeted abuse, intimidation, or threats of violence against any person
  • Hate speech— content that promotes hatred or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic
  • Spam, phishing, and malware— unsolicited bulk messages, deceptive links, or malicious software
  • Impersonation— pretending to be another person, organisation, or RPLudus staff member
  • Doxxing— sharing another person's private or personally identifiable information without their consent
  • Exploitation of minors— any content or behaviour that endangers, exploits, or sexualises minors in any way

Content Moderation

We reserve the right to remove any content and suspend or terminate any account at our discretion if we determine that it violates these Terms or poses a risk to the community. Users must use the content warning system to tag sensitive material appropriately. Failure to do so may result in content removal or account action.

4. Community Guidelines

  • Respect other users— treat everyone with courtesy and good faith, even during disagreements
  • Follow community rules— each community on RPLudus may have its own rules in addition to these Terms. You are expected to follow them
  • Moderator authority— community moderators may enforce their community's rules, including removing posts and banning members from their community
  • Report violations— if you encounter content or behaviour that violates these Terms, please report it through the built-in reporting system. Do not engage in vigilante moderation

5. Marketplace Terms

RPLudus provides a marketplace where users can offer and purchase game-related services (such as game mastering sessions, character art commissions, and similar offerings). The following terms apply to marketplace activity:

  • Accurate descriptions— sellers must provide honest and accurate descriptions of their services, including scope, deliverables, and any relevant limitations
  • Pricing— all prices are listed in EUR. Sellers are responsible for setting fair and transparent pricing
  • Platform fee— RPLudus charges a service fee on completed marketplace transactions. The current fee is disclosed on the marketplace listing page
  • Transaction relationship— bookings and purchases are agreements between buyers and sellers. RPLudus facilitates and mediates these transactions but is not a party to them
  • Payments— payments are processed through Stripe. By using the marketplace, you also agree to Stripe's Terms of Service
  • Cancellations and refunds— buyers may cancel a booking before the seller has confirmed it. After confirmation, a dispute resolution process is available. Refund eligibility is assessed on a case-by-case basis
  • Seller obligations— sellers are responsible for delivering the services as described in their listing. Repeated failure to deliver may result in account restrictions or removal from the marketplace
  • On-platform transactions only— marketplace payment and booking must stay on RPLudus. Sellers must not request, and buyers must not offer, payment or booking outside the platform to avoid fees (for example via PayPal, Venmo, bank transfer, or other off-platform payment). Coordinating or delivering a service on a seller's own tools (such as Discord, video calls, or virtual tabletops) is permitted; moving the payment off-platform is not. Circumventing platform fees may result in account suspension or removal

6. Intellectual Property

The RPLudus platform — including its design, branding, logos, code, and documentation — is owned by RPLudus and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the Platform without our prior written consent.

Users retain full ownership of their User Content. However, you must not post content that infringes on the intellectual property rights of others. If you believe your copyrighted work has been posted on RPLudus without authorisation, you may submit a takedown request to legal@rpludus.com with the following information:

  • A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed
  • The URL or location of the infringing material on RPLudus
  • Your contact information
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the copyright owner
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate

7. Privacy

Your use of RPLudus is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal data. By using the Platform, you acknowledge that you have read and understood our Privacy Policy.

8. Disclaimers & Limitations of Liability

RPLudus is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the Platform's availability, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose.

  • We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the Platform
  • We are not liable for the actions, content, or conduct of any user, whether online or offline
  • We are not liable for the outcome of marketplace transactions between users
  • We are not responsible for any loss or damage arising from your use of the Platform, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, RPLudus's total liability to you for any claims arising from or related to your use of the Platform shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to RPLudus in the 12 months preceding the claim, or €100, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable applicable EU law.

9. Termination

You may delete your account at any time through your account settings. Upon deletion, your personal data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms. In cases of serious violations (such as CSAM, threats of violence, or repeated harassment), termination may be immediate and without prior notice.

When an account is deleted, some User Content may be anonymised rather than fully removed in order to preserve the integrity of existing conversations and community threads. Anonymised content will no longer be associated with your identity.

10. Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable EU law, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.

If you have a dispute with RPLudus, we encourage you to first contact us at legal@rpludus.com so we can attempt to resolve it informally.

If you are a consumer in the EU, you may also use the EU Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform to submit a complaint.

For disputes that cannot be resolved informally or through the ODR platform, the courts of the RPLudus registered jurisdiction shall have exclusive jurisdiction.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to the Platform, legal requirements, or our business practices. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and/or through a prominent notice on the Platform at least 30 days before the changes take effect.

Your continued use of RPLudus after the updated Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the Platform and delete your account.
